Bridging the Practice of Yoga & Modern Medicine (Training for Yoga Teachers and Students Interested in Therapeutic Application)

This module will be lead by Dr. Jessica Johnson, yoga teacher, Senior Resident in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, and contributor to the ABC News Medical Unit.

An overview of the research behind and applications of yoga as a tool for health within the framework of modern medicine, paying particular attention to the therapeutic considerations of special populations and chronic medical ailments. Participants will explore how yoga may be utilized to supplement western medicine in achieving optimal and individualized well-being with tools to apply the practices of yoga and meditation to common health issues such as chronic pain, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease. An assignment will also be required for certification.

Mobility & Stability of the Shoulder (Training for Yoga Teachers and Students Interested in Therapeutic Application)

Part 1: August 3. (live Zoom review and Q&A August 12)

Part 2: August 10 (live Zoom review and Q&A August 19)

Part 3: August 17 (live Zoom review and Q&A August 26)

 

Live Virtual Zoom Sessions for Review and Q&A will be held August 12 (Part 1), August 19 (Part 2), August 26 (Part 3) from 4pm - 5:30pm EST. All Zoom Sessions will be recorded and shared with participants. 

 

Participants will receive a digital manual.

 

An in-depth examination of the anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder joint will serve as a foundation for understanding healthy movement and patterns of dysfunction. Participants will learn how to assess for shoulder dysfunction, common injuries, and yoga as a curative intervention.  Techniques learned can apply to group classes and one-on-one instruction. Homework assignment will be required for 300 hour YTT hours. For those taking this training for continuing ed, an end of course assignment will also be required for certification and hours.

Yin Yoga Teacher Training/Immersion (Training for Yoga Teachers and Students Interested in Therapeutic Application)

16 hours continuing ed - or - module for 500 YTT

Cost: $275

Part 2: August 24 (live Zoom review and Q&A September 1)

Part 3: August 31 (live Zoom review and Q&A September 8)

This module is for teachers looking to learn how to teach yin yoga. Yin yoga is a more passive style of yoga that targets the connective tissues: ligaments, bones, and joints and especially benefits the hips and lower spine. Participants will be lead through yin sequences and learn fascial anatomy, meridian lines, cues and propping, modifications, and how to sequence classes.  Homework assignment will be required for 300 hour YTT hours. For those taking this training for continuing ed, an end of course assignment will also be required for certification and hours.

Yoga Medicine©️ Essentials Workshops (Training for Yoga Teachers and Students Interested in Therapeutic Application)

September 12 & 13

September 12: 11am - 2pm: Shoulder; 3pm - 6pm: Hip

September 13 8am - 11am: Spine; 12pm - 3pm: Myofascial Release

 

Cost: $275 for all 4 sessions; $75 per session

The core components of a therapeutic practice distilled into a series of workshops that outline the structure and function of the major joints as well as the network of connective tissue, or fascia, that supports and coordinates them. You will leave with an arsenal of information to instantly incorporate into your practice and teaching. Each workshop begins with a short lecture on a key anatomical area - Shoulders  Hips, Spine and Myofascial Release - then moves on to explore its therapeutic application through practice to bring the information to life. Each workshop includes a handout you can take home to keep the information fresh in your memory, and is open to both the new and avid yoga practitioner. Open to students and teachers alike. On completion of the in-person hours and an online quiz, teachers qualify for 12hrs of Continued Education with Yoga Alliance and toward the Yoga Medicine 500hr program.

Skillful communication is reflected in how we use our words, presence, touch, and vision for the class. This module will explore strategies for teaching yoga with greater skill and refinement and managing unexpected challenges and troubleshooting strategies for overcoming those challenges. Skills and techniques will be presented to enhance verbal cueing, demonstrations, and hands-on assists. Lecture/discussion will include growing your teaching experiences from group classes to privates and workshops, and business strategies to take you from instructor to community leader.
