THE PROCESS: A MIND/BODY EXPERIENCE
PERFECTIONISM, CONTROL, & ANXIETY: MOVING FROM THE HEAD TO THE HEART
GUD YOGA STUDIO, NORFOLK, VA
DECEMBER 9TH 1PM - 3PM
COST $45 ($40 GUD MEMBERS) PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED
The Process is a mind/body-oriented approach that incorporates yoga, mindfulness, and psychoeducation to honor the wisdom of our life experiences and resolve issues of accumulated stress. We work at the level of physiology and belief using embodiment tools to resolve symptoms and patterns that become stuck in the mind/body. Each workshop experience is centered around a psychological theme and offers an integrative approach to recover the natural equilibrium of the nervous system. Developed by Dr. Diane Malaspina, psychologist, and expert in yoga for mental health and wellbeing, The Process increases our range of stress resilience and creates greater ease in the mind/body.
Perfectionism, Control, & Anxiety: Moving from the Head to the Heart
Perfectionism is often motivated by the need to have control over the self and the environment, yet underneath is an intensifying anxiety that manifests as growing frustration, shame, and fear. In emotionally charged situations, we find ourselves in states of overwhelm that may lead to unintentional self-sabotage (impatience overload, people pleasing, or fixating on fixing). The nervous system assumes a hyper-aroused state and tolerating distress becomes difficult. This yoga sequence is carefully designed to free up physiologic anxiety and set the stage for a mindfulness embodiment of safety as we move from head to heart. Dr. Diane will offer a talk on this specific type of anxiety and provide evidence-based tools for navigating overwhelm through reflection and journaling. Moving from a place of resistance to acceptance where all feelings big or little can be welcomed.
Workshop includes yoga, myofascial release, sitting for meditation, brief lecture/discussion, and reflective journaling (please bring a journal).
